Direct Finish in Vancouver, WA Wants You to Consider Whole Project

Dec. 27th 2013

When Vancouver, WA homeowners want to remodel or build a home, we at Direct Finish Construction, want them to consider the WHOLE project.  You might be fixated on the new space, but while you are thinking through this space consider what your final decorations might be.

Alan is one of the Direct Finish Construction core members and he has considerable experience in art design and is excellent at giving projects a new and fresh look.

He will help you consider furniture, accessories and window treatments you may need to complete your space. If you have this wonderful new renovated space, how sad it would be to have shabby accessories or window treatments or dilapidated furniture.

Alan can help you decide on furniture that will help enhance the new space. Shifting walls or doors in a remodel will change the dimensions and some of your old furniture may not fit.

Decisions about window treatments should also be considered carefully. When choosing your new windows, make sure they will work with the window treatments you are planning to install. If you want interior shutters, you should realize they will work best on sliding or double-hung windows. Some homeowners want elaborate molding. This looks great on the windows when they are bare, but cause difficulties when mounting window treatments.

T’was Christmas Slump, Get Your Home Update

Dec. 20th 2013

T’was the week after Christmas, and the house did look sad.

The colored lights were all gone and the poinsettia had gone bad.

The owners now realized without all the glitter,

The house needed a face lift ‘cause things just looked bitter.

The kitchen should be bigger, the bathroom updated.

There were a few other things the family just hated.

Like the closet was dark and the widows did weep.

And the sinks all looked cracked and rather cheap.

To make matters worse, the stairs all did creak.

To have more silence would be a great treat.

The whole house could really use a remodel.

If we could afford it and the workers didn’t dawdle.

When what to our wondering eyes did appear.

Direct Finish Construction folks in high gear.

They have the skill and the energy needed.

All projects, your expectations exceeded.

There’s Eric, Leslie and Alan to call on.

It’s just the right time, since the tree is now gone

They’ll remodel your home. Fix all that you hate.

Even without garland, the place will look great.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

General Contractor in Vancouver, WA for Your Dream

Dec. 13th 2013
You'll want to do you're own customized painting.

You’ll want to do you’re own customized painting.

Last blog we gave you some suggests on what you should do with your custom Vancouver, Washington homes.

Today we’d like to make some suggestions on things you shouldn’t upgrade as you build your new custom home.

These are things that are easy Do It Yourself items and don’t really save you money in the long run.

  • Accent paint. Unless you really HATE painting and are all thumbs, let the builder paint, but if you want roses or borders or something else personalized, do it later.
  • Drawer pulls. Once again this is something that rather than upgrade from the ones the builder has, you can find exactly what you want at some retailers. They will add a lot of character and be very unique.

As start planning your new home or a remodel, pull all the ideas you have into a decorating file. This is a file we, at Direct Finish Construction, would love to see. This will help us understand exactly what you want.

Go in to rooms that are about the size of what you are wanting and measure. This will help us understand what you mean by “a big bedroom,”  “a medium size bedroom,” “a large bathroom.”

We are excited to start working with you. Call 360-690-5616 for a consultation or click here to read more about Direct Finish Construction.

Upgrades for Your Vancouver, WA Custom Home That Don’t Cost Much

Dec. 6th 2013
You could have the home of your dreams.

You could have the home of your dreams.

If you have decided to build a home, congratulations.  As general contractors, we know how much fun this time can be. At Direct Finish Construction we get to go through it several times a year and it never grows old, seeing Vancouver, WA families get what they have always dreamed of.

There are, of course, so many questions right now.

  • Should I build a large house or the nicest house?
  • What important detail might I forget?
  • Will the things I want now be the things I want in five years?

At Direct Finish, we love the building and remodeling process. We have been through it so many times that we humbly offer our suggestions as you ask the above questions.

There are also some general suggestions we like to give.

  • If you can afford it add an extra garage. This gives you more storage.
  • Also add an exit door out of the garage.
  • Make sure the trim and molding is of good quality.
  • Add an electrical outlet in the pantry. You can use small appliances in there without using valuable counter space. We’ve even seen families who put a printer in the pantry.
  • Add an electrical outlet in the desk cupboard. This way you can charge a phone or have an electric pencil sharper within the desk.
  • Add an electrical outlet under the eves so you can easily plug in Christmas lights.
  • Add a window in basement bathrooms. This is good for ventilation and allows for natural light.
  • Allow for an outdoor hot tub outlet even if this will be a future investment have the plug ready.
  • Allow for a future fire pit or BBQ spot.
  • 3 way light switches or lights that can be turned off in two place can be very helpful especially in open floor plans. Think about where you will be entering and leaving a room. Will you want a switch on both sides of the room?
  • Add under cabinet lighting. This is most easily done while building the home and not as a DIY later.
  • If you have an area without light consider a skylight or solatubes.
  • Install a trash compactor in the kitchen and a recycle drawer.

If you have any questions or want to discuss a future project, call Direct Finish Construction. They have experience and ideas.
